CARBON STEEL FABRICATION SERVICES

Carbon steel is the workhorse of industrial, commercial, and marine fabrication. JMC Fabrication delivers precision carbon steel fabrication for pipe spools, HVAC duct systems, structural components, and custom weldments — from our AWS-certified shop in Pascagoula, MS.

[WHY CARBON STEEL?

Carbon steel offers a high strength-to-cost ratio that makes it the default material for most industrial and commercial fabrication work. It welds cleanly, machines well, and carries structural loads reliably. ASME, AWS, and SMACNA all specify carbon steel as the standard material across their respective application domains — process piping, certified welding, and commercial HVAC duct. The tradeoff: carbon steel corrodes without protective coating. In environments with saltwater exposure, chemical contact, or aggressive corrosives, stainless steel is the appropriate choice. In dry, coated, or cost-sensitive applications, carbon steel is the right call.

[CARBON STEEL FABRICATION AT JMC

JMC produces carbon steel work across all of our core service lines:

  • HVAC duct systems (galvanized carbon steel, SMACNA-compliant)
  • Pipe spools and process piping assemblies in carbon steel
  • Structural frames, supports, and subbases
  • Flanges, fittings, and custom weldments
  • Equipment packages (pump skids, subbases)
[GRADES & SPECIFICATIONS

JMC works with standard structural and piping-grade carbon steels including ASTM A36 for structural applications and ASTM A53/A106 for pipe fabrication. Material certifications (MTRs) are available on all carbon steel. Confirm specific grade requirements with your project specification and JMC will source accordingly.

[WELDING & QUALITY
  • AWS certified welding on all carbon steel work
  • Weld procedure specifications (WPS) per applicable code
  • NDE inspection per project requirements
  • Material traceability from raw stock to finished assembly
[APPLICATIONS
  • Commercial HVAC ductwork (galvanized carbon steel per SMACNA)
  • Oil and gas process piping (A53, A106 pipe)
  • Marine structural and piping (non-saltwater-exposed or coated applications)
  • Industrial manufacturing and equipment
[WHEN CARBON VS STAINLESS

Carbon steel is the right choice for structural loads, dry or coated environments, and cost-sensitive projects. Where corrosion resistance is the priority — saltwater, chemical contact, sour gas service — stainless steel is the better long-term investment. JMC fabricates in both; we'll help you choose the right material for your application.

[FAQ

What carbon steel grades does JMC Fabrication work with?

JMC works with structural carbon steel (ASTM A36), pipe grades (A53, A106), and carbon steel plate and sheet for various applications. Contact JMC to confirm availability for your specific grade and schedule requirements.

Can JMC provide MTRs for carbon steel fabrication projects?

Yes. JMC provides material test reports (MTRs) and mill certifications for carbon steel projects that require material traceability. Documentation packages are available per project specification.

Is carbon steel or stainless steel better for my application?

Carbon steel is preferred for structural loads, dry environments, and cost-sensitive projects. Stainless steel is required where corrosion resistance is critical — saltwater, chemical contact, or high-purity service. JMC fabricates in both materials and can help you evaluate the right choice for your application.

What industries does JMC serve with carbon steel fabrication?

JMC serves commercial HVAC contractors (galvanized carbon steel duct), oil and gas EPC firms (pipe spools), marine and shipyard accounts (structural and piping), and industrial manufacturing customers across the Gulf Coast.
